JoAnn McGlamery

Obituary of JoAnn McGlamery

JoAnn Dotson McGlamery was born in Princeton, West Virginia on June 10, 1960 to Vize and Jean Dotson. Not long afterwards the family moved to Nashville, TN. At an early age (5) she came home from school and told her mother, “I want to be a school teacher when I grow up.” At the age of 11 she developed Leukemia and after 3 years of chemo and radiation at St. Judes Hospital she went into remission. When she was 13 she learned American Sign Language at her church and felt called to become a teacher of the deaf. She attended The University of Tennessee and graduated with a degree in deaf education. Her first teaching position was in Charleston, SC where she taught 1st grade. Over the next 30 years she taught in all three Charleston counties in grades Kindergarten thru High School. Teaching the deaf was one of the great passions in her life. The greatest Passion of her life was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was raised in church and became a Christian at the age of 8. In 1997 she met the love of her life, a Baptist Minister named Howard McGlamery, and they were married a few months later. For the next 20 years she served God at his side. She served God as a Sunday School teacher, Children’s Church teacher, and Sign Language interpreter and teacher. She led the Vacation Bible School at Ladson Baptist Church/Grace Chapel for 20 years. Over those 20 years several hundred boys and girls came to Jesus Christ. In 2007 she and her husband adopted a 5 year old boy from Peru who they named Andrew Judson McGlamery. Not long after that in 2011 they adopted a 10 year old deaf girl from China who they named Susanna Grace McGlamery She Loved God. She Walked with God. She Served God. And now – She is With God. I, her husband, was blessed to be married to this Godly Christian woman for over 20 years. She was the “Love of my life.” She is survived by her husband, Pastor Howard McGlamery, her two children AJ and Susanna. She is also survived by her parents, Vize and Jean Dotson, by her brother Clifford, his wife Sherrie and son Matthew, all of Nashville. Prov 31:10-12 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. — Visitation for Mrs. McGlamery will take place on Saturday, November 25th from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at Ladson Baptist Church (3231 Ladson Road, Ladson SC 29456).
