Obituary of Howard Kenneth Carothers

Howard Kenneth Carothers, 76, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina passed away November 2, 2017 at his home in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 26, 1940 in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Henderson and Maude (Smith) Carothers. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor with many years of faithful service to the United States Navy. Ken even earned a very special Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for outstanding support and dedication to the United States Navy. Ken had a servant’s heart and was generous to a fault. He loved his God and would teach the word whenever he was called upon to do so. Ken also had a gift for music. He was given a talent to play all the stringed instruments and even the organ. He was completely self-taught. Ken was amazing leader and provider for his family. When he was not working, Ken enjoyed fishing. He was an expert angler and he has the photos to prove it! Ken was also an extraordinary cook. He was very skilled at preparing seafood and steak. Ken was called on often to prepare his famous “Surf and Turf”. Ken most loved time with his family. The August nights sitting in the back of a pickup truck watching the starts were treasured time for him and his family. Ken is survived by his Beloved wife, Hazel Carothers, Daughters: Wanda Beach, Dena Roach (Greg) and Deborah Clevenger (Larry) and son: Ken Carothers, Jr. (Barbara). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at New Covenant Church of God, 2801 Ashley Phosphate Road North Charleston, SC 29406 on November 4, 2017 from 12:00PM until 1:00PM Funeral services will be at 1:00PM on November 4, 2017 following the family visitation with Pastor Harvey Fields officiating. Interment will be at Plantation Memorial Gardens, 3345 South Live Oak Drive Moncks Corner, 29461 at 3 PM.
