Obituary of Gail Kilgore

Dedicated wife and loving mother, Gail Whitaker Kilgore (Dothan, Alabama) entered into eternal rest on October 16, 2017 after losing her battle to Parkinson’s. A resident of The Bridge of Charleston, South Carolina, Gail was 80 years old. Born on November 2, 1936, Gail was a devoted member of Grandview Baptist Church in Dothan until her retirement when she joined the fellowship at Judson Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama. Gail was active in the choir and cooked for the church for many years. She provided floral arrangements for the church as part of the Flower Committee, often with roses grown in the home garden. Gail found joy in accompanying her husband and children on several mission trips. She had a genuine love for people and was considered a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess. She enjoyed needlework, music, home decorating, fishing, vacationing in the mountains, and gathering with family. Gail was fond of decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. She was a friend to all and loved by many. A graduate of Dothan High School, Gail started her career in banking at Dothan Bank & Trust. She was proprietor of The Wax Burner & Things in Northside Mall, operating for over 11 years prior to returning to banking with SouthTrust Bank. Upon her retirement, she relocated from Dothan to the family lake house on Thomas Mill Creek, Lake Eufaula. Gail is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert Oliver Kilgore, of Dothan as well as her father, Earnest Theopolis Whitaker, and her mother Nancy Caroline (Calhoun) Whitaker, and her brothers Ernest LaDon Whitaker and Bryant Woodrow Whitaker, all of Dothan. Survivors include son Robert Steven Kilgore, and granddaughter Taylor Jeffcoat; son Kirk Jason Kilgore (Cynthia Jones), and four step-grandchildren. Also surviving are her niece Cecelia Whitaker Wager (Mike), their children and grandchildren, and nephew Brad Whitaker (Pam) and their children and grandchildren. Immediate correspondence with the family should be directed to 130 McKelvey Place, Goose Creek, SC 29445. Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later time.
