Obituary of Anne Barker

Anne “Gela” Barker, age 64, of Walterboro, SC, entered into eternal rest on September 2, 2017 after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her passing. Gela was born on April 9, 1953 to Ann and Archie Barker, in Allendale, SC. Gela was married to Thomas Wilson and to Micah Warren during her lifetime. Anne worked for the SC Forestry Division in Allendale County while she was married to Thomas Wilson. She moved to Summerville, SC where she went to work for the Dorchester County Sheriff’s department as a jailer. Later she went to work at Summerville Police Department where she rose in the ranks from a patrolman to a detective before retiring. After being retired for a short time, she then went to work at Dorchester DSN Board. Illness forced her to retire. She was married to Thomas Wilson and had three children whom she is survived by: Thomas “Tommy” Wilson (Leigh); Hal Wilson (Rita); and Wesley Wilson. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her 3 siblings; James “Jimi” Barker (Darlene); Julie Jackson; and Susan Griffin (Phillip) and many nieces and nephews. She had a very special friend, Micah Warren, who helped take care of her for most of her life. She also leaves behind a very special pet; Maggie. She is preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Thomas Wilson. Visitation will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6th at Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services, Inc. (281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC 29456). Burial will take place on Thursday, September 7th at Mt. Arnon Cemetery (3353 Barnwell Highway, Allendale, SC.) A special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Charleston for all of their dedication and caring through this very difficult time for her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Arnon Cemetery Fund, 706 Shepherd Road, Barnwell, SC 29812.
