Obituary of Mary Evelyn Bryant Kornahrens

KORNAHRENS , Mary Evelyn “Mimi” Bryant, 93, of Summerville, SC, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016. She was born in Conway, SC, on December 7, 1922, and then moved to Summerville in her early teenage years. She was a graduate of Summerville High School, where she played on the basketball and tennis teams. A skilled golfer, Mimi was a long-time member of the Miler Country Club, won many awards attesting to her golf skills, and achieved two holes-in-one. Always athletic, Mimi enjoyed water-skiing on Lake Moultrie until her later years, when she would tease that she didn’t want to get in that “wet water.” She also enjoyed playing bridge, attending local theatre productions, and spiritedly watching televised athletic events. Mimi spent the last nine years at the Presbyterian home, where she could be found socializing with good friends, volunteering at the welcome desk, playing bunco, and going on field trips. Mimi was a loving mother to Frieda LaBonte, Carlotta Rutter (Kirk), Brenda Wylie (Robert), and Frederick Kornahrens (Kathleen). A beloved grandmother, Mimi leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerhard Henry Kornahrens, her son Gerhard “Gerry” Henry Kornahrens, and her husband Donald Howarth. Mimi will also be missed by her extended family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and countless friends. Her memorial service will take place on July 9, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Presbyterian Home of Summerville with a visitation following. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Presbyterian Home Employee Appreciation Fund (201 West 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483).
