Obituary of Georgia Antoinette Rahal Skallet

Georgia Antoinette Rahal Skallet, 91, of Hanahan, South Carolina died Friday, July 21, 2017 at The Life Care Center of Charleston. Georgia was born July 18, 1926 in Savannah, Georgia to James N. and Mary S. Rahal. She was one of six children. She matriculated from Savannah Public High School, and joined the workforce. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where her close cousins lived and worked for the Bell Telephone Company as an operator. She was an active member of the union while working for the Bell Company. She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was most proud of achieving flight status and flew as a member of the flight crew that carried General Omar Bradley. Her awards include The National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Air Crew Members Badge. She left active service as a Staff Sergeant in 1955 to raise a family. She was an entrepreneur, owning many small businesses. She was also very active in local politics. Ms. Skallet is survived by her daughters Lorise R. Vondra (Charles), Denise M. Skallet, and Michele Y. Baigrie (Robert); Two grandchildren, Meredith Vondra Bannon, Esq (James) and Robert A. Baigrie (Lauren), and one great grandchild, Emma Grace Lorise Bannon. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her grandson, Charles F. Vondra, Jr, and her six brothers and sisters. Georgia was divorced from her husband W.S. Skallet. He predeceased her in 2009. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017 in the Hanahan City Hall from 5 to 7 pm. 1255 Yeamans Hall Road, Hanahan, SC 29410
