Obituary of Carl Bailey

Carl K. Bailey, 85 years old, of Bonneau S.C. passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017. He was born and raised in Ohio, son of the late Guy and Alice Bailey. He had many nick names, “Beatle Bailey”, “ Big Stick”, “Captain Bill” but was most notably known as “Bill Bailey”. At 17, he joined the military, to his mothers dismay, but his mother Alice knew it was futile, his mind was made up, so she reluctantly signed the form that allowed him to pursue his goal of serving in the military. So it began, a life of adventure, one that led him to the nether regions of the world, the least of which, Korea and Vietnam. He served courageously in both those wars. Married twice in his lifetime. His first marriage was to Dell Runyon of Ohio. He maintained a close relationship with her and her son Mike until his death. His second marriage was to Aletha Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C. She had three children by a prior marriage, but he was undaunted. He raised her three children as his own, and they subsequently had two more children. Together, they moved their burgeoning family to far away places such as England, Germany, Iran and Greece. Through his strong work ethic and quick mind, he rapidly accelerated through the ranks to make Chief Master Sargent of the U.S. Air Force. He served for twenty years and then did another ten years with Lockheed Martin. After retiring at a young age, Bill and his wife Aletha still traveled extensively throughout the U.S. fishing and R.V.ing. As a result, making many lasting friendships, that continue to this day. In particular, his dear friends Rick Bryan, Sylvia McDonald, and all the wonderful people from Evelyns diner in Bonneau that enriched his life and helped throughout his long battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed…A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 27 at Simplicity Lowcountry Burial Services 7475 Peppermill Parkway Suite E. North Charleston 29418, 843-767-8057.
