Obituary of Thomas Powell Jones

Thomas (Tom) Powell Jones, 66, of Huger, SC passed away on July 1, 2017. A Celebration of Tom’s life will he held 2:00pm July 9, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Johns Island, SC 3483 Maybank Hwy., Johns Island, SC. Tom was born in Charleston, SC on February 16, 1951, the youngest son of Randolph Powell and Bernice Burris Jones. Tom attended St. Johns High School and graduated from Murry Vocational School in 1969. Tom served his country with the US Navy during the Vietnam War, was a Naval Reservist and worked with Berkeley Electric Coop and Charleston Water Systems for many years. Tom loved to hunt and raised prize winning coon and foxhound hunting dogs in addition to winning many trophies and awards representing the breeds. Tom was always helping someone in need to the point of doing without for himself. His love for the outdoors and hunting has been instilled in his soul since a very young boy. A superb marksman and hunter with a passion for life and living in a quiet country environment. He will be missed by many who loved him and his big heart. Tom is survived by his son, Jason Mathew Terry, his sister, Joanne Christopher (Lloyd), aunt, Francis Jones, nieces: Amie Long, Lisa Todd, Martha Ann Sherry (Paul) and special friends, Paul and Kristen Crawford in addition to several cousins and numerous lifelong friends. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Karon Diane Jones and Brother, Randolph Burris Jones. Interment will be at a later date in Beaufort National Cemetery.
