Obituary of Marion Hickman Smith

Dorchester, SC – Marion Hickman Smith, 88, of Dorchester, husband of Kathryn Whetsell Smith, passed away peacefully, attended by his loving family, at the Hospice Inpatient Center in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 6th, at Limestone Baptist Church in Dorchester. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Steve Mims and Rev. Ron Jenkins. Burial with military honors is at the church cemetery. Hickman was born in Holly Hill, SC. He was the son of Johnnie and Leila Jeffers Smith. He served the Army honorably for two tours during Korean War. He was a retired carpenter; formerly working with AVCO and The Drews Co. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Kay Smith, Dorchester; son Al(Linda) Smith of Dorchester; a daughter, Miriam (Jamie) Birdsong of Summerville; grandchildren, Jake and Hannah Birdsong of Summerville, Courtney (Jamie) Smoak of Chapin and John Curtis (Autumn) Stroble of Parker’s Ferry; great-grands; Hartley, Bennett and Fowler Smoak, Braxton, Colton and Willow Stroble and one brother, Horace (Eiko) Smith of Peyton, Colorado. He is preceded in death by siblings: Harold Smith, Tom Smith, Jr., Tracy Smith, Betty Kolb and Lizzie Cummings. Memorials may be made to Limestone Baptist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
