Obituary of Mavis Marie Phillips

Mavis Marie Phillips, 88, of North Charleston, South Carolina went to be with Jesus June 26, 2017 at her home in North Charleston, South Carolina surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 5, 1928 in Green Creek, North Carolina to the late Minter and Lona Belle (Smith) Skipper. Mavis was strong in her Christian faith. She instilled a commitment of prayer, forgiveness and unconditional love to her children and those she cared for. She was generous to a fault and would help those around her whenever she could. Mavis was an excellent cook, and was known for her chicken and dumplings and macaroni and cheese. There was always room for one more at her table and no one left her home hungry. When she was not caring for others, she enjoyed reading, watching her Atlanta Braves and especially her Bingo games. She will be missed by those she loved and those that loved her. Mavis is survived by her children: Sandra Kay (Phillips) Yates, Marsha (Phillips) Christiansen, Teresa Earline (Phillips) Coffey (Jim) and Donald Wayne Phillips, grandchildren: Robert E. Pack (Michele), Stephen Gaines, Charyl Compton (Steve), Rachael Yount (Keith), Eric Phillips, Joshua Phillips, and Debbie Coker and 17 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother M.C. Skipper (Helen), Danny Yates and many nieces nephews and cousins that will treasure her memory. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Earl Phillips, a son Ronald Blaine Phillips, a grandchild Richard Nelson Pack, and fifteen of her aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be at Northwoods Baptist Church, 2200 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC 29406 on Thursday June 29, 2017 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Sonny Holmes and Dr. Tommy Meador officiating.
