Obituary of James A. Crane

James A. Crane, 68, of Summerville, SC died Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 from ALS. He is survived by his wife of 47 yrs., Cynthia (Liudahl) Crane, son Christopher (Alison) Crane, daughter Alexa (Casey) Tomich, and grandchildren Bailey, Porter, Lauren, & Julia. Jim grew up in Leeds and Devils Lake, ND graduating high school in 1966 and as a pharmacist in 1971 from NDSU. He was then awarded a direct commission into the Navy and served as a pharmacist for 20 years. Commander Crane retired in 1991 as the Chief of Pharmacy Services Naval Hospital Charleston. He then continued his career as a Pharmacy Manager in Seattle, WA. until 2010 when he and Cynthy retired and moved to Summerville. He enjoyed golfing but most of all volunteering on Thursdays, affectionately known as “Crane Day”, at the Naval Weapons Clinic pharmacy. He is also survived by his Mother, Livonia Crane of Devils Lake, ND, Jerry (Monica) Crane of Fargo, ND, Jean (Jim) Jurgens of Hamilton, MI, and Jane (Roger) Gage of Marysville, WA. He was preceded in death by his Father, Walter “Red” Crane, and his sister, Joanne File. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 2nd at 2pm at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in downtown Summerville, SC with a light reception immediately following. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, ALS or USO.
