Obituary of Olivia J Smith
Olivia Johanna Smith was born in London, England on November 11, 1932 to
parents Jack and Johanna Kissner, who moved there from Frankfurt, Germany
four years earlier to start a kayak building company. When Olivia was 3 years
old the family came to the United States settled in Long Island, and opened
the Folbot Factory in New York City. At the age of 19 her family moved with the
Folbot company to Charleston, SC where Olivia attended USC in Columbia,
graduating with a business degree in 1956. In 1963 she began working with her
father at Folbot, continuing to work there after the business was sold until
retiring at the age of 63.
During that time Olivia met and later in July of 1976, married Alfred E. Smith.
Over the years they traveled together staying at some of the most beautiful
state parks on the east coast. During that time she joined the Charleston Photo
Club, becoming an excellent amature photographer winning ribbons and
awards for her bird pictures, many taken while traveling but also while staying
at their place in Bono located on one of the canals.
Olivia was a member of the Local Business Women of Charleston, the
Charleston Ski Club and the Paddle Club, she also belonged to a Horticulture
group and enjoyed taking Line dancing at Park Circle. With Alfred, she joined
the Sierra Club and Audubon Society where they were members for many
years.
Olivia is preceded in death by her husband Alfred E. Smith and daughter Carol
Marie Fort. She is survived by Daughter Katherine Graham of Charleston, Son
Michael E Graham of Rock Hill, Son Stephen P Graham (Sarah) of Beaufort,
grandchildren Michael and Nicole Graham, Michael Boyd, Johanna Graham
and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday June 16, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Simplicity
Lowcountry Funeral Home. Followed by a burial at Live Oak Memorial Gardens
at 2 p.m.
