Obituary of Phyllis Elaine Smith
Phyllis Elaine Mayfield Smith, 87, of Summerville, South Carolina, went home to be with her Savior on June 17, 2020, with family at her side.
Phyllis was born on May 7, 1933, in Flint, Michigan, to the late William and Edith Mayfield. Her parents did not know the Lord, but through the faithful witness of a neighbor, Phyllis came to know the Lord as her personal Savior at a young age. She encouraged her sisters to attend church with her. Because of her church’s ministry, she and her three sisters grew up learning God’s Word. Since the Lord worked in Phyllis’s life when she was a child, as an adult, she loved giving the gospel to children. She worked in child evangelism ministries, held 5-Day Clubs in her home, and faithfully worked in AWANA. Phyllis was a kind and loving mother to her three children. Her grandchildren were among her greatest joys. She is loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Virgil Smith, who loved and cared for her for 61 years; her sisters, Jeanie Seal and Glenda Anderson; her children, Kathy (Dave) Edwards, Eric (Heidi) Smith, and Bryan (Becky) Smith; and her grandchildren, Jonathan Edwards, Nathaniel Edwards, Annalee (Travis) Foster, Judah, Moriah, Asher, Christian, Jordan, Ethan, Abigail, Borden, Hudson, and Chloe Smith.
