Obituary of Linda Gantt Dennis

On April 14, 2017, in the presence of her family and comfort of her earthly home, Linda Gantt Dennis experienced the joy of the realization of her eternal hope in the resurrected Christ. Linda was born on October 23, 1940, in the town of Wagener, SC, to Forrest O. Gantt and Queenie Harman Gantt. She graduated from Wagener High School and went on to complete her B.A. in Education at the University of South Carolina. In 1967, she met her husband-to-be, David (Dave) P. Dennis, Jr., at Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Columbia, SC. They married the following year and subsequently settled in the Charleston, SC, area in 1971. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters who both bear witness to Christ’s work in their hearts. She was a loving, tender, and supportive wife and mother, unselfish in giving of herself to her family’s needs. Linda taught first and third grades in Christian schools in the local area for over 20 years, retiring in 2002. She was a gifted teacher and remained true to God’s call on her life, exerting a Christ-like influence on the lives of her students. Linda enjoyed traveling and was blessed to visit many parts of the U.S. as well as a number of foreign countries, including the Holy Land, her favorite trip. Linda was an active member of East Cooper Baptist Church (ECBC) until the ravages of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) significantly impacted her functional capabilities. She loved the risen Christ and was a testimony to His work in her heart. She particularly enjoyed the ECBC Prime Timers and often displayed her compassion for others, as well as her dry wit, sense of humor, and infectious laugh during their times of fellowship. A special thanks to her dear friends at Premier Physical Therapy where Linda was blessed not only to receive therapy for her PD, but also to experience social interaction which brightened up her days, even as she brightened theirs. Linda is survived by her husband of 48 years. The inscription in their wedding bands reads “Forever Yours” which now awaits eternal consummation! She is also survived by daughters Kim Westbrook (Neil) of Matthews, NC, and Jennifer Myers (Kevin) of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren Lauren and Haley Westbrook and Karli and Kyle Myers; and brothers James Forrest Gantt (Rebekah) of San Antonio, TX, and Larry Gantt (Virginia) of Hartsville, SC. Her funeral service will be held at ECBC in Mt. Pleasant on Friday morning, April 21, 2017, at 10:30 AM. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Global Impact missions ministry at ECBC, a cause dear to Linda’s heart.
