Obituary of Robert Burditt

Robert (Bob) Burditt, age 87, passed away peacefully in hospice on April 5, 2017 Bob was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 7, 1929 to Arthur and Hazel Burditt. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He met his wife of 63 years, Jeanette, in Jacksonville, Florida while serving as an Ensign in the United States Navy. They settled in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the late 1950’s where Bob went to work for the Development Division at the Y-12 Nuclear Security Complex. Both were active in Oak Ridge community organizations with Bob serving on the Anderson County Board of Commissioners for several terms in the 1980s/90s. He also served as President of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. He enjoyed participating in the political process and was actively engaged in the Anderson County and Tennessee Democratic Party. He also enjoyed supporting his children’s various pursuits and could be found on many a Saturday morning sitting in the stands watching them play basketball in rec leagues. He retired from Y-12 in 1992 where he had been the Program Manager for the Development Division. He and his wife traveled extensively and particularly liked to take cruises. After several years in retirement in Tennessee, they moved to Ocala, Florida and subsequently settled in Summerville, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, brother, Arthur, Jr. and sister, Helen Branyon. Bob is survived by his Jeanette, son Russell and his wife Donna of Vicksburg, Mississippi; daughters, Audrey Lynn and her partner Jean of Vancouver, Oregon, Judith and her husband Mike Werley of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and Carol of Knoxville Tennessee. Bob has requested cremation and no service be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to Hospice of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd, Mt Pleasant, South Carolina 29464.
