Joyce Bissonette

Obituary of Joyce Elaine Bissonette

Joyce Elaine Bissonette (Waite), 74, of Goose Creek, SC passed away peacefully on 3/25/2017 at Trident Medical Center after a Courageous battle with lung cancer. Always optimistic that she would defeat this “damn disease” she told none of her children, until almost the end. She had eye surgery to remove cataracts 2 weeks ago, “Because if she was going to die, she wanted to be able to see where she was going!” Her passion in life was to save all the feral cats in the Charleston area, and she was a self-proclaimed “Crazy Cat Lady”, in her neighborhood. Her beloved cats, Otis, Bright Eyes, Callie and the neighborhood cat Henry will sorely miss her. Joyce loved her friend very much and would do anything for them, as they would have done the same for her. Janet, John and family, Carmen, Colleen, Charlene, Barbara, Brenda, Debbie, Janice and Richard, she loved all of you and she was so grateful for your love and help. Joyce was also survived by her lifelong friend and Companion, Richard DeGenring. Her dear Richard, you will be forever loved. Joyce had four children, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who will miss her greatly. Daughter Elizabeth (Jim) Bellas, Cincinnati OH, Sons, William (Katherine) Bissonette, Tomah, WI, Floyd (Lisa) Bissonette, Manitowoc, WI, Daughter Rebecca (Brian) Whyte, Sandown, NH. Grandchildren; Faye Harrington, Craig Harrington, Michael Bissonette, Samantha Bissonette, Ryan Peters, Kyle Peters, Matthew Bissonette, Jace Bissonette, Brady Whyte and Jackson Whyte. Great-Grandchildren; Dominic, Natalie, Ava, Ka’eo, Lillianna, Garrett, Amelia, Aaliyah and Liam. Joyce also had two sisters who she was very fond of, Nancy Colella, Watertown, NY and Marilyn Waite, Dudley, NC. She has a brother Fred Waite, Ogdensburg, NY. Joyce also has many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Corabelle (Swick) Waite, a brother Albert (Jim) Waite, Jr., A Sister Carol Klein, and a nephew Robert (Bobby) Klein. In her memory, Joyce would have loved if at all, possible, you gave a cat a second chance, and adopted a cat from your local animal shelter. She also thought Joyce would be a good name for a cat. As Joyce would say, “It is what it is”. Joyce requested that her ashes be scattered overlooking Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks at a later date. When the date scattering of her ashes is set, family and friends will be contacted if they are able to join in her life celabration. A small remembrance gathering at her home at 117 Stonehurst Dr. Goose Creek, SC will be held from 6-8pm.
