Obituary of Mary Frances Ray

Mary Frances McElveen Ray

Entered into eternal rest on Friday August 7, 2020 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on June 2, 1934 in Kingstee, SC the daughter of the late Dozier McElveen and Mildred Burrows McElveen. She is preceded in death by her sisters Bernice Kizer and Mildred Franklin and her brother Ernest D. McElveen. Her daughters Cathy Cooke, Pam Cooke, her grandson Nicholas Long and her stepdaughter Patricia Frey.

Surviving is her husband of 43 years John A. Ray, daughters Cindy Cooke Fann (Chuck), Karen Cooke Wright, Gina Graffius, and brother Willie McElveen.

Mary was blessed with 12 grandchildren Stacy Bramlett (Thomas), Robbie D' Onofrio (Ashley), Kevin Fann (Libby), Chuck Fann, Ricky Fann (Morgan), Amber Mims (Chris), Timothy York, Johnathon Long (Glenda), Jeremy Mills (Melissa), Christina Robinson, Evan Graffius, Josh Graffius, and 13 great grandchildren. She was also blessed with having many nieces and nephews. She loved them as her children, and they also loved her like a mom and a best friend.

Mary's family was always her first love, her door was open at any time day or night. She was the quintessential caregiver the one with the warm bear hug that could comfort you in any situation good or bad. The one thing you never did was leave her house hungry, she fed the masses and that would make her so happy.

We would never be forgiven if we did not mention her precious animals (past and present) that she absolutely loved as four-legged fur babies. Her cat Fluffy that was 20 years old, Chase her beautiful Pomeranian and her current shadow Bentley (the protector) a black poodle that never left her side.

Arrangements are being handled by Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services Summerville.
