Obituary of Jean Dittenhoefer Wente

After a valiant battle with cancer, Jean D. Wente, 72, died peacefully at home in Summerville, SC on June 14, 2016. Jean was born on July 16, 1943 to Marben John and Alice Victoria Dittenhoefer. She was a consummate administrative professional, retiring from Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union in 1999. Jean was an avid gardener, an amazing cook and loved to knit; she was captivated by nature’s beauty and was an adventurous soul who loved to travel. Over the years, Jean and her husband, Bob enjoyed numerous extended passages on their boat between Maine and the Bahamas. They were also avid skiers, enjoying trips to the mountains in search of fresh snow. As a member of Santee Light Artillery and the Daughters of Santee Light Artillery, Jean was a passionate re-enactor. She was also an Associate Member of CSS David Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, Robert O. Wente, her sister, Jane (and Steve) Turner, her brother, Allen Dittenhoefer, numerous nieces and nephews, stepchildren Susan (and Gordon) Smith, Mark (and Kathy Cutrone) Wente, Barbara (and David) Freidin, Wendy Romans and Jeffrey Wente, twelve grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Jean’s ashes will be inurned at the Mepkin Abbey Columbarium.
