Obituary of James Archie Harris

James Archie Harris Sr, 68, of Ravenel, South Carolina, husband of Debra Harris, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 1st after a strong, hard-fought battle with ALS. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday January 4, 2017 6pm-8pm at Sauldam Baptist Church in Ravenel. The funeral service will be held January 5, 2017 at 11am at Sauldam Baptist Church with the burial immediately following the services at the White Church Cemetery. Archie was born April 2nd, 1948 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, son of the late Doris Tate and Wilbur Harris. Archie served in the Army as a mechanic. He worked as a chemical supervisor for over 25 years prior to retiring due to disability. Archie was a member of Sauldam Baptist Church. Archie enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grand kids. Archie is dearly missed and forever loved by his family which includes his devoted wife of 45 years, Debra; two daughters and a son: Wendy Cordray (Art) of Ravenel, James Harris Jr. (Julie) of Ravenel and Ashley Johnson (Dallas) of Ravenel; Grandchildren: Wesley, Victoria, and Kaylyn Wolfe, Gracie and Annabelle Harris, and Annie Davis; Sister: Vicki Mings (Eddie) of Michigan; Brother: Philip Harris; brother-in-law: Johnny White (Donna) of Ravenel; Sister-in-law: Carol Harris of Wisconsin; his beloved companion, his dog, Minnie. Archie was also embraced by a loving group of neices, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother: Doris Tate, and brothers: William and Allen Harris. We would like to thank the health care professionals from Roper Hospice and all the many caretakers who provided their devotion to Archie. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
