Obituary of Elaine Miller

Elaine Miller died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 27, 2018, in Charleston, SC at the age of 66.

Elaine is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years Winston Miller of Summerville SC;her daughters Jennifer Gaultney of Summerville, SC and Rose Edmondson of Chesapeake, VA; her siblings, Ann Lanczynski of Chesaning, MI, Steven Furstenberg of Chapin, SC and Christopher Furstenberg of Lexington, SC; and her four grandchildren, Joseph Speed, Bryan Speed, Ashely Speed, and Taylor Edmondson.  She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Furstenberg and sister Barbara Furstenberg.

Elaine was born on May 1, 1951, in Toms River, NJ to Joseph and Mary Furstenberg. She graduated from Bishop England High School. She married US Navy sailor Winston Miller in 1973. She was a devoted military spouse and moved throughout the country including Charleston, SC, Pascagoula, MS, Newport, RI. The couple welcomed 2 children into their home and Elaine was a patient and kind mother that volunteered at Jennifer and Rose’s school.  She always encouraged her children to work hard, have compassion and to pursue their goals. After raising her children, she went back to school and obtained her diploma in Early Childhood Development. She utilized her diploma at St. John’s Catholic School in Summerville, SC.

Elaine loved to draw and paint. She entered and won prizes for her artwork at the local county fair. In addition to her artwork, she loved to tend to her roses. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of the St. John the Beloved Catholic Church.
 

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 pm on May 1 at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial in Summerville, SC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Elaine’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Research Foundation. The family would like to thank caregivers and hospital staff for their efforts, care, and dedication.
