Obituary of Dennis Collie

Dennis (Big Swede) Lindsay Collie, 62 of Goose Creek, SC peacfully passed away after a long and hard fought battle with cancer on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 5:00pm at Roper Hospital downtown Charleston,SC. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. 

 He was born on April 16, 1956 in Sioux Falls, SD to Lt. Col. Dan Latimer and Faye Doris Collie.

 

On April 26, 1997, he married Cynthia and they were married for a  blessed and loving 21 years. Together the raised two sons, Daniel Charles and Joseph Edward.

 

Dennis graduated from Hanahan High School and attended CSU (Baptist College) and earned a bachelor Degree in Business. He was an avid sportsman in his younger years. He loved basketball, tennis, racquetball, running, fishing and bowling to name a few of the sports he loved to do. For Dennis, family and friends were the most important thing to him. He always had a smile on his face to share, a firm hand shake and a gentle hug for anyone who needed it. He was  known for always having a joke or two to tell. Dennis had a special way of always making you laugh and feel like you were the most important person. Dennis had a way about himself to make you feel like you would always be part of his family. He loved to cook and try new recipes all the time. He had recently started to gather recipes from family and friends to put together a cookbook. So if you have a favorite recipe you would like to share. We will have his recipe book at the service Thursday for you to add your recipe to.

 

Dennis is survived by his wife, Cynthia and his sons, Daniel Charles and Joseph Edward. His Brother Michael (Kathy) of Summerville and his Sister Linda of Hanahan. Two sister-in-laws Susan of Hanahan and Charlene (Glen) of Summerville. Two Nephews Brian (Lauren) of Mt. Pleasant  and Randy (Lea) of Goose Creek. Two Grand Niece's  Rosemary of Mt. Pleasant and Harper Rae of Goose Creek. Several Cousins Joe (Rena) and Judy all of Texas. He was predeceased by his parents Lt. Col. Dan Latimer and Faye Doris Collie, and his in-laws Charles and Carolyn Harrell. 

 

Funeral services will be held at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church in Hanahan. The address is 5931 Murray Avenue Hanahan on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11am. Anyone that wants to say an eulogy for Dennis, is more than welcome to do so.  

 

Following the memorial in the church sanctuary, there will be food and fellowship provided to continue the celebration of Dennis' life and legacy in the church's social hall behind the church's sanctuary. Where family and friends can reminisce of Dennis and his life and the legacy that he left for all of us. There will be some crying, laughing and stories of all the memories that Dennis gave to all of us. Dennis' family would like to thank everyone for supporting Dennis and his family through out his long illness. God, Family and Friends keep him going until God saw fit to call him home. 

 

In lieu of flowers, we will be setting up an account for his sons, Daniel and Joseph for their  college tuitions.
