Obituary of Marilyn Walker Howard

Greenville, SC – Marilyn Walker Howard, 82, of Simpsonville, South Carolina was welcomed home into Heaven on December 13, 2020.

Marilyn was a beloved daughter of the late Oliver and Evelyn Walker. She was born in Worcester, Mass, and loved spending her early year summers with her family on Cape Cod.  The family moved to Anniston, AL in 1948 where she finished high school. She attended the University of South Carolina for two years where she majored in Business and pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Marilyn was married in 1959 and has three children: Steven and his wife, Angie of Greenville; Shari and her husband Ed Horeth of Greer; Scott and his wife, Peggy of Simpsonville. Marilyn’s eight grandchildren were her delight: Jonathan Siau of Simpsonville, Ashley Howard of Greenville, Sydna Lowe of Marietta, GA, Jonathan Howard of Norfolk, VA, Parker Howard of Greenville, Reid Howard of Wilmington, NC, Bennett Howard of Simpsonville and Thomas Horeth of Greer. She was also blessed to be actively involved with her five great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother Ronald Walker of Amelia Island, FL. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Walker of Hilton Head, SC. Marilyn has many nieces and nephews who were so dear to her.

Marilyn worked as a paralegal and process server in the Upstate for over forty years. She was passionate about and loved telling stories of her many adventures in serving papers. Over the years she also faithfully volunteered at The Ronald McDonald House, Pendleton Place Shelter, Connie Maxwell Home, and most recently at A Child’s Haven.

Marilyn poured her “Live, Laugh, Love” mantra on her community as well as her family and dear friends. She loved serving in her local church and was a regular children’s church message leader, mentor, and friend. Recently she began “planting” her painted “Turn it over…To God” rocks, which enabled her to have an encouraging conversation and share her faith.

Marilyn loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures with her family and friends. Most special were her beach trips especially to Siesta Key, FL, which she considered her “drivable Caribbean beach” location.

Marilyn accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a “Walk to Emmaus” event over twenty-five years ago and has humbly tried to serve Him ever since. Her favorite bible verse was John 13: 34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”   The fruit of her life was evident and comforting to those she knew and loved. She loved giving to others and will do so for years to come as her body was donated to MUSC’s Carroll A. Campbell Neuropathology Laboratory.

The family wishes to acknowledge the amazing love and care provided by Dr. Patrick Carey and the staff at the McCall Hospice House during her final days.
