Obituary of Patricia J Griswold

Patricia J. Griswold

Patricia J. Griswold died on December 18, 2020 after suffering a massive stroke. Born on March 21, 1930 in Oak Park, Illinois, Patricia was the only child of Lorine Harris and Charles McArthur, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth C. Griswold.

Patricia was a pioneer of women’s rights and their opportunities to break into fields normally dominated by men. She attended college in the 60s earning her degree in journalism. She went on to host her own radio news show interviewing such notables as Gore Vidal and Billy Jean King. Patricia later worked at The Sun Newspaper first as a reporter, sometimes riding along with the police to get her stories, and later as an editor. Upon retirement in Beaufort, South Carolina she continued to enjoy writing, reading and intellectual bantering.

Patricia was a founding member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Port Royal and past member of St. Helena’s Episcopal Church in Beaufort, South Carolina. She was also a past member of St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church in Berea, Ohio as well as Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio where she met and married her husband.

Patricia will be dearly missed by her daughter Dorian L. Griswold as well as those she met that became family to her. A Celebration of life service will be held at a later time. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Port Royal, SC. or a charity of your choice.

Patricia loved to share her wisdom and knowledge in order to enlighten or entertain those fortunate enough to enjoy her friendship. She was truly loved and her presence will be forever missed.
