Obituary of Abbie Gil Garcia

Abbie Gil Garcia, 59, of Washington, D.C., passed away on December 20, 2020 in Charleston, South Carolina. Arrangements of cremation are being handled by Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services.

Abbie took her knowledge and experience earned early in life and became Head Chef at the University of Mary Washington. Not only did cooking bring her joy, she was very fond of music, interior decorating, some good tv and her children. She thoroughly enjoyed “thrifting” with her mother whenever they visited one another. Abbie was an avid reader of romance and history novels, but gave the most attention to her Bible. She had a strong relationship with The Lord; she dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized in 2001 at Open Door Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia.

Abbie was born in Washington, D.C. to Brenda and Donnie Glover on February 24, 1961. She is preceded in death by both of her parents. Abbie is survived by former husband, Reverend Gilbert T. Garcia, with whom she shared 5 children: David, Candice, Lauren, Ryan and Taylor. She is survived by her siblings: Belinda and husband William Sr., Gino and wife Bonnie, Barbara and husband David and Garcia. She is also survived by nieces and nephews including: William Jr., Janese, Brenda, Merrell and Chautanya. Additionally, Abbie is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ivy, Noah, Jujan, Cameron, Eric Jr and Bella.

The family of Abbie Garcia wishes to extend our sincere thanks to MUSC Medical Center, MSA Hospice and Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services. Special expressions of gratitude for our Lord and Savior for graciously allowing us the time we had with our dear, sweet mother. We are assured that she has “gone where the good girls go”, as she would say. May her soul rest in peace.
