Obituary of Eleanor T. Keenan

Eleanor Teresa Keenan, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother to the Keenan Clan, died Friday, February 13, 2021. She was born in Scranton, PA in 1924 to the late George and Mary Gleason. Eleanor attended Marywood College and pursued a career as a dietician. She soon changed careers, becoming a flight attendant on Eastern Airlines where she met her husband, Frank M. Keenan, who was a pilot. Eleanor and Frank were married for 67 years before his death in 2014, and together they raised their family of five children. Being a Mother and homemaker became Eleanor’s life, and she pursued this as she did all things in life - with love, grace, steadiness and strength.

Always a model of independence for her family, Eleanor went back to school when the children were grown and became a Montessori teacher. Eleanor’s life was filled with family, and when she and Frank retired to their house on Lake Gaston, NC - there was nothing any of the family loved more than visiting with them at the Lake. These times were always filled with love, water skiing, evening cocktail cruises, good food, and laughter.

Besides her life’s legacy of grace, dignity and love, Eleanor leaves behind a daughter, Teresa Keenan Reid (Chad), and four sons, Michael Keenan (Laura), Patrick Keenan (Nancy), Kyle Keenan (Joanne), and Kevin Keenan (Lisa). She is also survived by ten adoring grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, who loved her as GiGi. Eleanor will be remembered by her family with a private service at Lake Gaston at a later date.
