Obituary of Oscar Lee Hardy

Oscar Hardy (December 4, 1942 to February 24, 2021)

Oscar Lee Hardy passed on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the age of 78. He is survived by wife Rosa Hardy, children Malcom and Erwin Hardy, and Veronica Parrott. Daughter-in-law Rachel Hardy.  Grand children Nia, Quintin Parrott, Schuyler, Jabari, Charlesa Parrott, Thuyler and Khuyer. Siblings Hershel, Sarah Robinson, Eugene, Johnnie Mae Stewart, JoAnn, Ricky, Teresa Person, Mother-in-law Linnie Carryall. Also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, in-laws, members of the Azalea church of Christ, neighbors, and friends.

Oscar (Also known affectionately as “Hardy” and “Oscar Lee”) was born on December 4, 1942 in Dublin, Georgia. His family would move to Jacksonville, FL where he would graduate from Stanton High School. He would then enter the Air Force and meet his wife Rosa at a college football game between South Carolina State and Florida A&M. He told me that two things took a thumping that night; his Florida A&M team that lost miserably, and his heart that day he met his soon to be wife.

Military life would have him travel the world, serve in the Vietnam War, and occupy various bases abroad where he would aid in protecting the interests of the United States.  Sometimes he was able to bring his family, other times he could not due to the nature of some of his assignments.

Besides a military man, he was known for being a father figure to the fatherless, friend to the underdog, counselor/mentor to advice seekers, and a southern gentleman who gave hospitality to all (not to mention his skills on the grill). He was also a great provider who passed those qualities onto his children. In his career he garnered many awards for his distinguished services in the military. After serving 23 years and 6 months in the Air Force he continued to win awards like trucker of the year before becoming an entrepreneur in the trucking industry.

He was very proud of his military life, his post military accomplishments, and the lives that he touched. And so were the people whom he shared his stories with, which is why we will all greatly miss him.

He will be laid to rest at the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC on March 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM. He will be honored one last time in a military service but remembered for another lifetime. Thank “Hardy”, “Oscar Lee” and “Daddy” for the memories.
