Obituary of Margot Callahan

Margôt Callahan

Margôt Linda Elinor Burns was born on 11th March 1946, only child of Margôt Annie Gertrude and Arthur Alonso Burns.  Her father served in the RAF during WW2.  Margôt was born in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire (and always believed that a plaque should have been erected on the house at Avenue Road to commemorate her birth) before moving to South Yorkshire as a young child.

Margôt and her best friend, Linda Geraghty, lived briefly in Blackpool before returning to the Barnsley area.  Not much is known about their time in Blackpool apart from they seemed to have a lot of fun – what happened in Blackpool stayed in Blackpool!

Margôt had four children, Amanda, Robert, Brett and Martin, with her first husband, George Barnham.  Margot and family returned to live in Huntingdon around 1976.

After her first marriage ended, Margôt met Staff Sergeant Mike Callahan of the United States Air Force who was stationed at RAF Alconbury.  Margôt and Mike met in 1982 and married on 3rd January 1986.  They lived in Germany for 3½ years and then in Italy for 3 years before Mike retired from the USAF.  They moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1994 where they both worked until retirement and enjoyed their house on the lake together for 26 years.

Everyone who knew Margot would agree that she was fun loving and certainly enjoyed a party.  She was dearly loved and will be enormously missed by family and friends.  She will never be forgotten and forever in the hearts of Mike (her husband and best friend), her children and grandchildren (Zoe, Jared, Jack, Callum, Millie and Freja).
