Obituary of Robert Eugene Cramer

Robert Eugene “Bob” Cramer, Sr., 91, passed away on March 8, 2021, in Bluffton, SC.

Robert was born in Smithville, WV, to Laura (Smith) and Dr. Leona Lemon Cramer on December 29, 1929. He married Margaret Mary Sullivan on February 14, 1953, in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate of the University of West Virginia and went on to obtain his doctorate from the Chicago School of Optometry. He was an employee of Eastern Airlines for over 30 years. After retiring from Eastern, he worked in several other jobs, from Service Manager at a car dealership on Long Island NY to being a bailiff in Beaufort County Court. He was also a volunteer at the local hospital for many years and worked at the animal shelter in Bluffton.

He was involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and many local theater clubs.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Laura Cothran, brothers Dan and Bill, sisters Mary Lipphardt, Tina Hazen.

Robert is survived by his wife Margaret, son Robert Jr. and his wife Beth, Grandchildren Elijah and Lacey Cramer, Casey and Carolyn Cramer, Lenny and Mandie Cramer, and Michael Cramer. Great-Grandchildren Holiday, Sonny, Cecilia, Shultz, and Stella, son-in-law Todd Cothran, and by many adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Robert and Margaret were able to travel the world. They enjoyed many adventures from riding camels in Egypt by the pyramids, walking on the great wall of China, riding elephants in Thailand, going through the Panama Canal on a working freighter, touring every church in Rome, yodeling in the Alps, standing on the equator and countless cruises to the Caribbean Islands. There were very few countries they did not visit.

Robert was also quite the artist. From painting, tiling, or working with clay, he always had to be busy doing something.

He was a great entertainer and would have dinner parties where he would experiment with many different dishes, from the entree to desserts. You may not have known what was on the menu, but you were never disappointed.

He was a kind, generous and loving soul. He never met a stranger. He will be missed by all that knew him.

The family also wishes to extend sincere thanks to Ammie and Chelsie Lake for the care and comfort they brought him.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
