Obituary of Janet Lee White Tuttle

Janet Lee White Tuttle (66) of Summerville,  South Carolina, died at home on March 19, 2021, after a year-long battle with brain tumors and cancer. Her journey was epic, and her never-ending testimony of praise and trust in God for all His miracles, great and small, throughout the struggle was a source of strength and encouragement to her family, friends, medical team and strangers alike.  Our beloved Janet is at home in heaven now. She took her leave-taking surrounded by family, with her brother John and her son, Gatlin, on either side of her. She is completely healed now, and reunited with family and other loved ones who preceded her, including her daddy, John Allan White.  Janet is survived by her son, Robert Gatlin Tuttle, of whom she was always well and truly pleased; by her mother, Jo Ann White; by her siblings and their spouses (who were her siblings in heart and spirit), John and Pam White, Clinton and Lena White, and Vickie and Michael Raulin; by a glorious multitude of neices and nephews whom she loved to the moon and back; and by beloved cousins and heart-friends scattered the world over.

Janet was born on September 7, 1954 in Hollandale, Mississippi and raised in the Mississippi Delta, and in her lifetime also lived in South Carolina, Idaho, Georgia and Louisiana. She was always up for an adventure, most especially if it involved family. She was a devoted mother, a talented and creative artist,  and an avid gardener who painted the landscape with flowers, and, like Johnnie Alppleseed, left her touch at every place she lived.  Janet was a Special Education teacher who had a positive and long-lasting impact on the lives of the children she taught. She loved deeply and was gifted with an enduring spirit of service, encouragement, and joy in the moment.

Janet had a special passion and love for the orphans in Ukraine, and Shade for Children (shadeforchildren.net), a nonprofit begun by her missionary brother Clinton and his wife, Lena, in Uzhhorod, Ukraine.  She prayed for those children unceasingly and considered them her own.

A graveside memorial service will be held later this summer at Liverpool Cemetery under Spanish moss laden trees in the hills near Yazoo City, Mississippi.
