Obituary of Robert "Bob" Crout-Hamel

Robert “Bob” Crout-Hamel, 88, of Summerville passed peacefully on March 30th at his home after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Bob was born on September 13, 1932.  After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy where he would serve during the Korean War aboard the USS Eaton.  He would serve a total of three years with the Navy.  He then enlisted in the Air Force where he was Airborne Radio Operator Instructor who would serve in the Vietnam War during his 20 year Air Force career, for a total of 23 years of military service.  After retiring from active duty, Bob settled in New Hampshire, where he continued to play an important active role within the veteran’s administration to include being sworn in as First Commander in 2007, and then later Chaplain, and opening the first AMVETS Post 001 in New Hampshire.  His entire life was devoted to his military brothers and sisters.

Bob married Mabel in January 1957 in New Hampshire and had 3 children, Sandy, Andy and Vincent.  They were married for 58 years when she passed in 2016.  After her passing, Bob moved to Summerville, SC to live with his daughter Sandy and her family.

Bob was known for his quick wit, infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.

He was proceeded in death by his father, mother, siblings, wife and his great-grandson Gregory.

He is survived by his children Sandy, Andy and Vincent and their spouses, as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Flynn family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to the individuals who participated in giving Bob the best last five years; to the VA providers who assisted in managing his Alzheimer’s care, to the staff at Aging Gracefully, Senior Care Services (on Ladson) for giving Bob a purpose and allowing him to be a part of your respite program, he loved to “go to work” Monday through Friday, to the nurse practitioner at South Carolina House Calls for always being only a phone call away and to everyone else who played a role in Bob’s care for their continued love and support.  Thank you.

A small memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday April 7th at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services, 281 Treeland Dr., Ladson, SC 29456.  Burial will be at a later date in Boscawen, New Hampshire at the NH Veterans Cemetery.
