Obituary of Gerald Martin Davis Jr

Fair winds and following seas to CAPT Gerald Martin Davis, Jr. CAPT Davis casted away on his eternal voyage, to heaven, after battling cancer, Tuesday, April 6th, 2021, in North Charleston, SC.  CAPT Davis was survived by his wonderful wife, Deborah Anne Davis(Kortlang), of 47 years, his sons, Matt and Lee Davis, his daughter, Danielle Hites(Davis), and his sister, Cindy Orvin(Davis).  CAPT Davis was also a grandfather to 8 wonderful grandchildren.

CAPT Davis was born to Gerald Martin Davis, Sr and Doris Lee Davis(Dozier) November 13th, 1952, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  He graduated high school in Savannah, GA to later follow his father’s footsteps, serving in the military, becoming a cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA).

CAPT Davis graduated the USCGA circa ’74, with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Engineering.  Shortly after, he married Deborah Anne Kortlang, June 10th 1974, where the two began their journey together.

CAPT Davis and his wife, Deborah, served the USCG for 32 years with their children, honorably and faithfully.  CAPT Davis and family served our nation coast to coast, Alaska to Boston, on some of the USCG’s iconic class of ships, Hamilton Class ‘Cutters’ to Polar Class ‘Icebreakers’.  In his time with the USCG he received a Master of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (MIT),  a degree of Ocean Engineering (MIT),  and a citation for meritorious service awarding a Legion of Merit regarding his command and control response during Sept. 11th attacks in the New England Tri-State area.

Following his USCG career, CAPT Davis was employed as a director with Crystal Cruises and self-employed as the CEO/President of Santarossa USA.

CAPT Davis fully retired with his wife in 2017, to continue his passion with the seas on his boat and enjoying the leisure of travel with his wife and family.

CAPT Davis we have the watch, you are relieved of your duties.  May we be reminded of your love, mentorship, and passion.  May we carry out your legacy with similar conviction.  FAIR WINDS

Services for CAPT Davis will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, with full honors.  Date for service to be determined.
