Obituary of Dennis Lee Kent

Dennis Lee Kent, 81, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully at home May 4, 2021. He was born to parents Eugene Lester Kent and Eva (Bankes -Kent-Waddell) Eschenbach on March 9, 1940 in Mauston, Wisconsin.

       

Dennis was a graduate of Mauston High School (1958) and The College of Charleston with a Bachelors Degree of Science (1982).

 

After 20 years in The United States Navy, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1978. He was also a Laboratory Technician at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital, an instructor with Rutledge College and a Laboratory Manager with Baker Hospital (Roper North).

 

Dennis was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.  He had a love of canes and had an extensive collection from places he had been and ones that were gifted to him.  He once took a trip with his brothers to Vancouver Island, Canada, where they participated in a Salmon Tournament. Reading was his favorite way to enjoy some quiet time.  He also enjoyed his four-footed companions, Muggins, Kate, Molly, Mr. T and Morgan. He will be missed by many for his quick wit and awesome sense of humor.

       

Dennis is survived by his wife, Janet E. (Hensley) Kent, Daughters Melanie D. Miller (Daniel) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Kristie E. Mylin (Martin) of Virginia Beach, VA, his brother Eugene Kent (Mildred) of Osh Kosh, WI, Half-brother Raymond Waddell (Patricia), Step-sister Evelyn Waddell, Granddaughters Jennifer N. Pope of Summerville, SC (Drew) and Katelyn E. McCarthy of Bennettsville, SC (Will Clendenin), and Great Grandchildren Caleb, Kenneth, and Denise Goodale, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Joseph “Gramps” and Jennie Bankes (Grandparents), Eugene L. Kent and Eva B. Eschenbach (Parents) and Burdette Joseph Kent (Brother).

       

The family has entrusted Simplicity LowCountry Cremation & Burial Services with the funeral arrangements.
