Obituary of John J Dreibelbis

John J. Dreibelbis, 71, Bluffton, SC, died on May 25, 2021. He is survived by his wife Doris Rogers Dreibelbis of Bluffton, SC; his daughter Jennifer Dreibelbis Lyons (Joe Lyons) and grandchildren Robert & Jakob of Quakertown, PA; stepsons & spouses (Jay & Sandy, Jon, and Tim & Joanne Rogers) and grandchildren Justin, Alexander, and Zachary; and numerous cousins. John was predeceased by his mother Lydia Fisher Dreibelbis and his father William Dreibelbis of Dillsburg, PA.

John graduated from Northern High School in Dillsburg, PA, and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Thompson Institute of Harrisburg, PA. He was an accomplished IT professional for more than 35 years. He retired from the Financial Accounting Standards Board in Norwalk, CT in 2008,  and shortly thereafter moved to Bluffton, SC.

John’s work ethic inspired many. His constant punctuality was both a source of admiration and frustration, depending on who you asked. He also had a love of U.S. and world history, aviation, space exploration, military strategy, and movies, particularly science fiction and anything he deemed to be a “classic.” He loved hearing stories – almost as much as he loved telling them. As time marched on, some stories turned into and were lovingly referred to as “Dreibelbis embellishments.”

John’s favorite activities included foreign & domestic travel, visiting his favorite restaurants, and enjoying a dry martini and a good cigar. He was proud to share stories about his various adventures and the many friends he made along the way. 

John was a Mason, Lodge No. 106, F. & A.M., a member of the NexTech user group where he served as a board member and an active member of his community’s homeowners’ association.

Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children and The American Cancer Society.
