Obituary of Robert Miley Sandifer

On Monday, July 12, 2021, Robert Miley Sandifer of Edisto Beach, South Carolina, loving husband and father, passed away at age 82.

 

Robert was born on January 18, 1939 in Columbia, South Carolina - the youngest child of Clarence Earl, Sr. and Thelma Miley Sandifer. He received his mechanical engineering degree from the University of South Carolina in 1961, and was employed by Duke Power in Charlotte, North Carolina for 32 years. He continued his career for TRW in Las Vegas, Nevada as the Manager of Site Construction and Operations for the Yucca Mountain Project through 2007. On October 7, 1972, he married Beverly Sowers Green. Together they raised two daughters, Jennifer and Caroline.

 

After his retirement, Robert maintained a passion for protecting and preserving the character and uniqueness of Edisto Island, where he retired with Beverly. He was an advocate through his work with FRESPACE, the Edisto Island Preservation Alliance, for which he was a founding member and treasurer, and the Edisto Beach Property Owners Association, for which he served as President for many years. He also was active on many committees for the Town of Edisto Beach. 

 

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Earl, Sr., his mother, Thelma, and his sister, Peggy. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, his four children, Jennifer Mason, Caroline Padgett (Mike), Tammy Cress (Jef), and Trena Brittain (Todd), his brother, Clarence Earl, Jr., his grandchildren, Jillian, Jarrod, Alice, Mikellah, Cora, Joshua, Tayla, Megan, and Mason, and his great-granddaughter, Maverly, as well as nieces and nephews. A private service in his memory will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Edisto Island Preservation Alliance (PO Box 157, Edisto Island, SC 29438) or the Edisto Island Open Land Trust (PO Box 1, Edisto Island, SC 29438).
