Obituary of John Tyler Phillips

John Tyler “JP” Phillips, 32, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 12, 2021 in Summerville, SC.

John was born on March 22, 1989 in Baton Rouge, LA. to the proud parents of Jeffrey B. Phillips and Pamela Joy Ratliff Phillips. He was welcomed home by his sister Jessica and they became lifelong friends. John later became the big brother to Jacob and the three of them were the best of friends.

John moved with his family to Summerville, SC. in August 2000. He grew up and attended schools in Berkeley County. He was a 2008 graduate of Stratford High School.  From a small child John’s love for his family, friends and others was present. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never expected anything in return.

John spent his free time enjoying life in the Low-country. John loved fishing, playing frisbee golf and rocking out on his guitar. John was a patient and loving friend to all. John had a gigantic heart for children.  He took great pleasure in spending time reading, playing games and coloring with children. John was a pet lover who never missed an opportunity to give a cat or dog some attention and pampering.

John was preceded in death by his father Jeffrey B. Phillips, grandmother Veronica Vercher, grandfathers Percy J. Ratliff Jr. and Elton Phillips Jr.

John is survived by his grandmother Alice Ratliff of North Charleston, SC.,  his mother Pamela Joy Phillips, a sister Jessica and her husband Jason (Jay) Roy, a nephew John Hubbard, a niece Briahnna Law all of Summerville, SC., a brother Jacob Phillips of Ladson, SC., Uncles Steve Ratliff of  North Charleston, SC., and Jeff (Heather) Ratliff of Aiken, SC.

John also leaves behind a host of other beloved family members and lifelong friends.

John will be celebrated at a visitation on Tuesday September 21st at 6:00 pm. His service will follow at 7:00 pm and will be lead by Pastor Roy Jacques of Seacoast Summerville 301 E 5th North Street Summerville, SC. 29483.
