Obituary of Linda R. Griffin

Linda Roberta Simmons Griffin entered into her Heavenly rest on Friday, April 8, 2016. Linda was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, and a dear friend to all who knew and loved her. Linda will be remembered for her loving and caring heart and for always putting others before herself. Visitation will be held at the Summerville Church of the Nazarene, 10825 Highway 78 East, Summerville, SC, on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 6:00pm-7:00pm, with a Celebration of Linda’s Life immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Linda’s honor to the Summerville Church of the Nazarene. Linda was born in Charleston, SC, on December 10, 1944. She is predeceased by her parents, William Emret Simmons and Gladys Ellis Simmons, and her step-father Johnnie E. Horton, Jr. Linda retired from a Civil Service career as Manager of the Ordinance Department at the Charleston Naval Weapons Station, and later retired from Pinelands Group Home in Summerville, SC, where she was affectionately known as “Grammy.” Linda worked tirelessly for her church, being actively involved by serving many years as Church Board Secretary, Missionary President, Sunday School Teacher, Quizzing Instructor, and in any area where she was needed. Linda loved working crossword puzzles and word search games, but loving her Lord and her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy of all. Linda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stephen G. Griffin, her sons, Rev. Christopher A. Griffin (Leeza) of Clearwater, KS, Rev. Greggory B. Griffin (Susan) of Ridgecrest, CA, and Tim G. Griffin (Addie) of Goose Creek, SC; her grandchildren Jessica Griffin, Matthew Griffin, Joshua Griffin, Hanna Griffin and Emma Griffin; her sisters Sandra Coleman and Jo Ann Wright, her nephews Ian Koch and Donald Arthur; her nieces Shea Tetrick, Angelia Carpenter, Rachael Hixon, and Robin Cucurullo; and her step-grandchildren Tyler, Katelin, Payten, Maddison, Meghan, Tamer and Ameer, and countless friends and loved ones. The family would like to extend our deep appreciation to everyone with Intrepid Hospice of Charleston for their devotion to Linda’s care and well-being throughout her extended illness.
