Obituary of Frances Lavina Smith

Frances Lavina Smith died peacefully on April 9, 2016, in Charleston, South Carolina at the age of 82. Lavina is survived by her loving husband, James (North Charleston, SC), her children, James Scott (Summerville, SC), Robin (North Charleston, SC) and Pamela (Delray Beach, FL); and her grandchildren, Preston (Cleveland, TN) and Joshua (Clemson, SC) as well as sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as multiple siblings. Lavina was born on August 3, 1933 in Charleston, SC to Aris Buck and Lucius Brown. Lavina married Jimmie in 1965. After moving from New Jersey to Charleston, Lavina became a happy homemaker raising her 2 children, Scott and Robin. Her children remember her as a kind and caring mother who encouraged her children to follow their dreams. Lavina was known for her infectious laughter, her kindness and her compassion. She had a gentle spirit, a kind heart, and always had an encouraging word for those she encountered. She had a divine singing voice and often sang glory to her Lord and Savior. Visitation for Lavina will take place on Tuesday, April 12 from 1:00Pm – 3:00 pm at Faith Assembly (1527 Remount Road, N. Charleston 29406) . Funeral services celebrating her life will follow at 3:00pm with Pastor LaVaughn Young officiating . After the committal services at Riverview Cemetery a reception to follow at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life and legacy of Lavina.
