Obituary of Barbara Ann Strong

Barbara Ann Carter Strong was born October 27, 1951 to the proud parents, the late Mr. O’Neil D Carter and Mrs. Margaret Murphy Carter of Charleston, SC. She was the 5th child of 9.

Barbara was educated in the CCSD. She graduated from C.A. Brown High School in 1972 and enrolled in the US Army thereafter. She was an Admin Specialist while stationed in Fort Rucker, LA and completed her degree in Stenography. In her later years, she was employed by the City of Charleston Transportation Dept.

Barbara was a caring and compassionate mother, grandmother and friend to many. After the death of her parents, Barbara stepped up to be the glue of her family and welcomed her home to all in need. She was an excellent cook and never turned away anyone needing a hot meal. She dedicated her life to the well being of her family and served as a second mother to many of her nieces, nephews, and friends alike. Barbara had a smile that lit up a room and had the type of energy that pulled people to her. She enjoyed hosting many crab boils, card games, and holiday parties. She was a therapist, chef, party planner: pretty much an all around renaissance woman. The most important fact about Barbara, is that she loved many and was loved by all that knew her.

Barbara embarked on her journey on August 1, 2018. She is preceded in death by her brothers Cpl. John L. Carter and Robert L. Carter, and her sister O’Nell Cassey. Her strength, love and wisdom is continued through her daughter, Shaunell A. Strong and granddaughter Alaya A.A. Alexander. Loving memories are left with her surviving siblings: Arthur Carter (Selena), Merinda Carter Smith (Kenneth), Earthalene C. Nicks, Larry Carter (Loretta), Angelena Moye (Paul) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 12:00 with a funeral service to take place immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at Simplicity: Lowcountry (281 Treeland Drive, Suite C, Ladson, SC 29456.)
