Obituary of Linda McCrary Hawkins

Linda McCrary Hawkins passed away on May 10, 2022, after a long and brave battle with cancer.  She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gary, son, Eric, daughter-in-law, Elena, grandsons, Julian and Alexander, sisters-in-law Glenda Snelson, Maxine Ammons, and Shirley McDevitt, along with several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmel and Josephine McCrary, brother, Charles McCrary, and sister-in-law Jeanette Morgan.  Linda was born on January 11, 1950, in Brevard, North Carolina.  She attended Western Carolina University, graduating in 1972.  She retired from the North Carolina Public School System after 32 years of teaching before spending an additional two years at Berkeley High School.  Throughout her career, she cherished the opportunity to provide loving guidance to generations of children.  She loved reading, traveling, dancing, plays, concerts, gardening, University of North Carolina basketball, and spending time with her family and friends.  She especially enjoyed decorating her home for each season and the holidays, making the home welcoming and special.  After retiring, she enjoyed leading a feast group at Sunrise Presbyterian Church. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Everyone who knew her loved her sweet spirit and kind heart.  She was sacrificially giving to family and everyone around her.  She poured her love into others, and her love and generosity brightened every room.  She maintained strong faith in God, especially throughout her cancer battle, never wavering in the face of challenges.  Her strength, hope, and endurance leave a lasting legacy for her family, friends, and all who knew her.  She is loved, irreplaceable, and truly missed.
