Obituary of James Madison Tyler

James Madison Tyler, Jr. died peacefully at home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, January 29, 2016. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on September 21, 1934 to James Madison Tyler and Dorothy McNair Tyler. The family moved to Kinston, North Carolina where he attended Kinston High School. He played football, baseball and basketball and lettered in all sports. Jim received his Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He played basketball one year, was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and The Order of Gimghoul while there. After collage Jim went into the U.S. Air Force where he rose to the rank of Captain. His love of flying remained with him always. Upon finishing his commitment with the military, he began a career in Real Estate development. His projects included apartments in Cary and Raleigh, North Carolina, Timberon Resort in the mountains of New Mexico, a self-storage project in Columbia, South Carolina and sales of commercial and residential properties in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Jim was forever an avid Tarheel fan. He loved tennis, golf, traveling, his art, margaritas and the Righteous Brothers. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughters, Elizabeth Brewster of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Anna Tyler of Tucson, Arizona and his constant companion Savannah. He was predeceased by his sister Betty Tyler Wallace of Raleigh, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday February 2nd at Christ Church, 2304 North Highway 17, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29466. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 4975 Lacross Road, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
