Obituary of David Larry Salley SR

David Larry Salley, Sr. entered into eternal rest on February 2, 2023. Larry was born November 27, 1945 in Orangeburg, SC, the son of David Luther and Mary Lorene Campbell Salley. He grew up in Charleston, graduating from St. Andrews Parish High School in 1963, and remained close to his classmates the rest of his life. Larry spent his career in the insurance business, where he was the owner of Salley Insurance Agency and later co-owner of Salley and Gosnell Insurance Agency. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as both a deacon and an elder. Larry loved to golf, particularly at Shadowmoss, and was also an avid fan of Carolina Gamecock football and Porter-Gaud Cyclone basketball. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by a son, Larry Salley, Jr. (Ann), and a daughter, Lori Fitzgerald (Adam), both of Charleston; five grandchildren: David Salley (Rachel), Sean Fitzgerald, Jacob Salley (Sarah), Michael Fitzgerald, and Mary-Elizabeth Salley; and five great-grandchildren: William, Landon, Calhoun, and Magnolia Salley and Daniel Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Cheryl Salley-Weeks. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 11 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The family will greet guests at a brief reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The South Carolina Autism Society (scautism.org).
