Obituary of Adell S. Brown

Adell Shealy Lytle Brown of Hanahan, SC entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Manor. A memorial service will be held at a later date with a graveside service at Unity Cemetery in Ft. Mill, SC. Adell was born on July 1, 1916 in Ballentine, SC, a daughter of the late James Noah Ollie Shealy and Maude Estelle Harmon Shealy. Adell worked in Retail sales and was a buyer for the Belk store in Ft. Mill, SC. Adell resided in Ft. Mill and was a long time member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church. Adell was a loving mother who enjoyed homemaking, cooking, canning and sharing those efforts with friends and family. She loved gardening and was an avid African violet propagator. Adell was first married to the late Thomas Neely Lytle. After the passing of Tommy Lytle, Adell was then married to the late Joe Franklin Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Norma Lytle Newton, two granddaughters, Elizabeth Newton Gilbert and Frances Newton Hylton of the Charleston area. Adell is also survived by four great grandsons and one great great granddaughter. After her marriage to Joe Franklin Brown, Adell became a loving step mother, step mother-in law and step grandmother to the sons of Joe Franklin Brown and their respective extended families. After spending most her adult life in Ft. Mill, SC, and with the advent of declining health, she moved to Hanahan in 2004 with her daughter and later moved to The Mt. Pleasant Manor. A memorial graveside service, to be conducted by the Reverend Karen Radcliff of St. Johns United Methodist Church, will be held for family and close friends at a later date in Ft. Mill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Eagle Harbor Ranch home for boys located at 1044 Eagle Harbor Lane Summerville, SC 29483. Adell’s granddaughter, Elizabeth Newton Gilbert is a co-founder and director of this ministry. Also, you may consider donations to Adell’s home church, St. Johns United Methodist Church at 130 Tom Hall Street Ft. Mill, SC 29715.
