Dorace Lackey

Obituary of Dorace Louise Lackey

Dorace Louise Tuttle Lackey went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from her temporary home in MT. Pleasant, SC. She was 85 years old.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles O. Tuttle, Sr. and Mary Trixie Anderson Tuttle; a sister, Ellen and a brother, Rev. Charles O. Tuttle, Jr. She leaves behind a biological niece, (Charla); three chosen nieces: (Sheryl, Wendy and Angie) three chosen sisters: (Audrey, Patsy and Laurel); and several cousins.

Dorace attended St. Stephen Elementary and St. Stephen High School, where she proudly graduated with a perfect 12 years attendance record. She was a long time employee of City Finance Co. and MUSC, before she retired in 1999.

Prior to moving into Sandpiper Nursing Home, Dorace lived in the West Ashley area of Charleston, SC for many years. A lifelong Methodist, she was a member of the Women of the Moose and also served as an officer of Dixie Land Guide Dog Users (the South Carolina affiliate of Guide Dog Users, Inc.) Always a conversationalist, Dorace never met a stranger and loved being with people. In her younger years, she loved to dance and never missed a chance to show that she could still "bust a move." She enjoyed camping, eating, watching her soap operas on television and strolling around the pond with her dog, Smokey. In addition, Dorace loved the Lord and would often make a joyful noise to praise Him. Her favorite hymns included "He Lives"; "Blessed Assurance" and "The Lord's Prayer".

A Celebration of her Life will be announced. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Acts of Grace Food Pantry, Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenburg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407. www.mygraceumc.org
