Obituary of Christopher Allen David Bingham

1961 – 2023 Christopher Allen David Bingham, age 61, peacefully departed this world on April 29, 2023 in his home on Pinopolis, South Carolina. Christopher was born September 9, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1980, and Franklin University, Columbus, in 1987, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education. Christopher had a long and diverse career. He worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for Mid-Ohio Ambulance Services in Lancaster, Ohio. He was a firefighter in Heath, Ohio. He was also a licensed pilot. He entered the police academy and became an officer for the Lancaster Police Department, eventually meriting a promotion to Detective. Christopher parlayed his police experience into a position as a Special Investigative Unit (SIU) investigator for a major insurance corporation. After returning to the Lancaster Police for a period of time, he retired. In 2008 Christopher relocated to Charleston, SC, where he taught in Charleston and Berkeley Counties. Christopher worked with the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), as well as state agencies throughout the southeast in response to catastrophic weather events.

Christopher is preceded in death by his father Patrick L. Bingham, grandparents Leo and Rosalia “Sally” Bingham and Thomas and Lyda Kessler, and sister-in-law Susan Baus Bingham.

He is survived by his wife Rhonda Smith; his mother Betty Jane Kessler Bingham of Lancaster, Ohio; brothers Dennis Bingham (Christine) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Brian Bingham (Debby) of Lancaster and sister Beth Anne Johnson (Jeffrey) of Lewis Center, Ohio; as well as beloved nephews and nieces Jerome Bingham, Erin Bray, Brian P. Bingham, Alexandra Szana,Nicholas Johnson, and Godolias Johnson; children Sam and Chelsea Young, Moriah Smith, Hannah Smith, and Nickolas Lehman; grandchildren Brantley, Franklin and Ollie Jo Young, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A sunset service will celebrate Christopher's life and love of the water on Friday, May 12, 2023, 5 pm on Edisto Island Beach, South Carolina; a place of both joy and retreat for him.
