Obituary of Annette Ricks Nelson

Annette Ricks Nelson of N. Charleston passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2023.

Annette was born in New Bern, NC in 1947 to the late James and Leona Ricks. She is survived by her sons Dale Nelson, his husband Mitchell, Joseph Nelson jr., loving companion Jerry Bailey and his daughter Lisa. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tonjua Teague. Annette had 8 grand children and 5 great grand children whom she adored enthusiastically.

Annette was a nurse for nearly twenty years and loved what she did. She retired in 2008 but that wasn’t the end of her journey. She continued helping her friends and family with medical questions and could diagnose and advise just with a phone call. She was born to be a nurse. Annette was a conversationalist and never met a stranger. She would help others to her last breathe and always had opinions and advice to share. Annette smiled from her eyes, loved deeply and was passionate about her friends and family.

Annette always enjoyed going to breach inlet to watch the dolphin. She had a deep love for animals big and small and would often visit local shelters on her lunch breaks to make sure fur babies “got love” while waiting for a forever home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Charleston Animal Society in her memory.
