Vera Couturier

Obituary of Vera Barnette Couturier

Vera Barnette Couturier, 76, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023. Vera

was born on March 22, 1947, in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Marion F.

Barnette and Tossie Watkins Barnette.

She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Gerald A.

Couturier. She is also survived by her daughter, Christina Couturier Kibler (David)

of Chapin, SC, her daughter Angelique Couturier of Goose Creek, her son Gerald

A. Couturier, II of Charleston and her daughter Aimee Couturier Sumrall (Joe) of

Navarre FL. She is also survived by her 6 grandsons, Brian MacEachern, Brad

MacEachern (Kayla), Matthew MacEachern, Jacob Kibler, Andrew Kibler, Tyler

Kibler, and her Great Grandson, Noah MacEachern, sister, Margaret Pace of Columbia, sister-in-laws, Renee Runey (Leon) of Mt. Pleasant, Kathleen Couturier (Jay) of John’s Island,  Gloria Barnette Budge (Tom) of Dataw Island and Judy Barnette of Awendaw, and numerous nieces and nephews in the Barnette and Couturier families whom she loved dearly. Vera was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Marion, Richard, Robert, and Jack Barnette, and her nieces Lori and Carmen Barnette and nephew Darrell Barnette.

Vera was raised in Charleston and was a graduate of Charleston High School. She

loved her hometown where she worked for Johnson & Johnson Insurance for

many years as well as the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, The American Red

Cross, and Goodwill. She loved spending time downtown and out on Folly Beach.

Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Vera was a

wonderful person to be around, as she was always making friends. She was so

dear to everyone who had the privilege of being her friend. Vera and her infectious smile seemed to make friends everywhere she went and once you met her, you had a friend who was loyal, devoted, and would stick with you through thick and thin.

Vera loved to cook and bake; her family and friends loved when she made her amazing

fresh deviled crabs, deviled eggs, and benne seed cookies. She loved spending

time on the beach and water on the boat around Morris Island, Bird Key, and Kiawah Island. Vera also loved to make crafts and items to share with family and friends such as

a beautiful wreath for a neighbor’s door, or a handmade necklace for someone

special in her life. Most of all, Vera loved practicing her faith and worshiping God.

She attended Blessed Sacrament, where she volunteered to attend

perpetual adoration. She was also a member of St. Josephs, and Our Lady of

Good Counsel. Vera will be missed by so many; her smile, her laughter, and her

presence, that you could count on no matter what, but we are certain that we will

see her again because of the love and grace of our Savior Jesus Christ.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday November 14 from 11 am - 12:30 pm at the

Church of the Nativity Parish Life Center, 1061 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.

A graveside service and Internment will be held at 1:30 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery

604 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston SC 29412.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital which Vera supported.
