Obituary of Samuel William Van Norte

Samuel William Van Norte, 85, of Edisto Island, departed his earthly life on November 6, 2023. Sam was born on September 3, 1938, son of William Schindledecker and Thelma Louise Augostat.

Sam was a car-loving, story-spinning, raccoon-whispering character and could talk at length to anyone who would listen, about a wide variety of subjects.

He served in the USAF, and was a graduate of The Citadel.

He is survived by two daughters, Valerie Van Norte of Yonges Island, Cynthia Van Norte (Jesse) Cox, of James Island; granddaughter, Elizabeth Aydlette, of Davenport, FL, and his family of raccoons whom he cooked dinner for every night at his home, “Toad Hall”.

He was pre-deceased by his parents; his stepfather, Lloyd F. Van Norte; and his brother, Robert O. Van Norte.
