Joseph W. Pye Sr. of Hanahan entered into eternal rest on December 2, 2023. He was born in Charleston, SC on August 7, 1939 to the late Wilbert George Pye and Elena June Pye. He was a lifelong resident of the Charleston area and attended Bishop England and Chicora High Schools. He was a graduate of Palmer College where he recieved an associate's degree in business. He also attended Charleston Southern University. While in the United States Air Force he was a Bomb Navigations Systems Mechanic. He retired from Federal Civil Service in 1996 after 35 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Division Director with the Fleet Industrial Supply Center, where he received many accolades including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and DOD Customer Service Hall of Fame Award. He then worked in the private sector for over 20 years as a government contract Calibration Program Manager with Automation Precision Technology LLC and Bowhead Science and Technology LLC at Space Naval Warfare System, Atlantic. Joe is survived by his children, daughters Debra (Mark) Byrd of Charlestown, IN and Donna (Mike) Byrd of Summerville, SC and his sons, Joseph Pye Jr, Richard Pye and Ronald Pye of Hanahan, SC. Joe was passionate about his family and loved them unconditionally. He will be remembered as a generous and caring man by the way he generously gave to others. He had many grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother Anthony Michael Pye, and sister Jackie Margaret Mims. He had a passion for playing competitive softball throughout his life, playing and coaching in many organized recreational leagues for over 35 years. He also loved every aspect of beach music and the shag dance which he shared with his many friends. He was a past President of the Charleston Shag Club, a member of the Islanders Shag Club, Elks Lodge 242 and a former owner of J.B. Pivots Beach Club. Joe loved going to Folly Beach. Enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and New England Patriots. He owned several pets, enjoyed cooking, gardening and working in his yard.
