Paul Ruth

Obituary of Paul D. Ruth

Paul D. Ruth, husband of 56 years to his loving wife Patricia Snyder Ruth, peacefully passed away in Bluffton, SC, on November 29, 2023, after facing a three-year illness. Born on June 2, 1947, in Beech Grove, IN, to Justin A. and Imogene Williams Ruth, Paul grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1965. His legacy is marked by a career spanning over 50 years, where he owned businesses, served as a route salesman for Hyponex and Dannon Yogurt, and dedicated the last six years as an owner of Tri Star Courier. Paul was a long-time faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus #3660 Council. His impact reached far and wide.

An enthusiastic bowler, Paul is a member of the Indianapolis Bowling Hall of Fame. In the 1998-1999 season, he led all bowlers in the Indianapolis area with a remarkable 223 average, earning a well-deserved spot on the prestigious All City Bowling team. Two of his many perfect 300 games came in 1993 and subsequently in 1994 during the Indianapolis City Bowling Tournament. In 1980, he achieved his best finish in the ABC National Bowling Tournament, reaching as high as third place before ultimately finishing 13th overall.

As Tournament Director of the Central Division Knights of Columbus International Bowling Tournament for two decades, Paul left an indelible mark, earning a rightful place in the Knights of Columbus International Bowling Hall of Fame. Golf was another passion, and for 45 years, he served as the secretary/treasurer of the Trophy House Golf League. Paul also coached Catholic Youth sports, Little League baseball teams, AAU baseball and basketball teams, as well as the Franklin Central High School bowling team. But what gave Paul special joy was the time he spent with his family—his sons, his grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Snyder Ruth, his son Jeffrey (LeeAnn) Ruth of Moore, SC, and son Thomas (Katie) Ruth of Bluffton, SC. His memory lives on through his four grandchildren, William, Haley, Charlotte, and Jaxon Ruth, as well as four nieces and five nephews. He is also survived by his brother Charles F. Ruth (Ursula Baker) and sister Mary Francis Ruth McElroy.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Justin A. Ruth, II.
