Obituary of Laura Ellen North Tahan


Laura Ellen North Tahan, 76, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024. Born on June 26, 1947, in Lynchburg, Virginia, Laura was a cherished daughter of Betty Francis Thomas North and John William North.
Laura was a loving and generous individual who was deeply devoted to her family and her faith. She had a strong sense of community and was known for her thoughtfulness. Laura was also a dog lover, finding joy in the companionship of her furry friends. She is survived by her beloved husband, Albert George Tahan, her daughter Alison Leigh Bates, and son Stuart North Bates. Laura is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Amy Graham Bates, her stepdaughter Mary Beth Seon, and son-in-law David Leslie Seon. Additionally, she is survived by her stepsons Albert Michael Tahan, William Thomas Tahan, and daughter-in-law, Nara Tahan. Laura will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Fiona Frederique Fisher, Graham North Bates, Joshua David Seon, London Olivia Bates, and Isabella Grace Seon. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Lou Profitt, and her brother-in-law, Wayne Profitt. Laura pursued higher education at St. Mary's College and Lynchburg College. She had a lengthy and successful career in real estate, where she excelled due to her sharp instincts, dedication, and expertise. Laura found solace and community in her places of worship, including White Plains United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church in Lynchburg, and Bluffton United Methodist Church.These places of worship not only nourished her faith but also provided her with a sense of belonging and the opportunity to form lifelong friendships. In her free time, Laura immersed herself in activities that fed her soul. She found joy and purpose in volunteer work, selflessly giving her time and energy to causes close to her heart. Laura also enjoyed traveling and indulging in fine dining experiences. She found fulfillment in giving back to her community and exploring new places and cuisines. A memorial service will be held in Laura's honor at White Plains United Methodist Church, 313 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511 on Sunday, January 28th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Appalachia Service Project or Meals on Wheels. These organizations were close to Laura's heart, and she would be grateful for any contributions made in her memory.
